Math and Technology Program Application

Registration information - July 14-19, 2024

Invited participants: ÁùºÏ±¦µä students who will enter grade 7 or 8 in Fall 2024; appropriate to students of all abilities and backgrounds

Camper selection: Approximately 50 campers will be selected randomly from those who meet the application deadline. For the older camper group, first priority will go to return campers, second to previous applicants who did not attend the camp and third to new applicants.

Location: University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno campus. Instructional activities will take place in the College of Education and Human Development. Campers will stay in campus residence halls and eat meals in the campus cafeteria.

Time frame: Sunday, July 14 at 5 p.m. (dorm check-in begins at 3 p.m., camp registration 4:30 p.m.-5 p.m.) to Friday, July 19 at 3:15 p.m.

Instructors: 3 instructors (2 classroom, 1 computer lab) and 2 instructional assistants per group of 30 campers

Instructional topics: geometry/spatial skills; problem solving/reasoning; computer/calculator use; data analysis and probability (younger group only); early algebra (older group only)

Instructional philosophy/approach: Campers will learn new material and explore familiar topics in greater depth through meaning-oriented, collaborative approaches.

Other information: Campers will be supervised at all times. Parents are invited to attend some initial and final activities but may visit the camp at any time. Most recent major funding sources for this program: ÁùºÏ±¦µä Gold Mines and the Frances C. and William P. Smallwood Foundation.

Cost: $600 per camper. Includes tuition, housing, meals and snacks, group recreation, camp t-shirt, math souvenir, and other associated costs. Scholarships are available to those with demonstrated financial need by documentation of free or reduced-price school lunch status. Any camper might contact her school for available scholarship funds or local businesses for possible sponsorship.

Application deadline: Application must be received by Monday, April 22, 2024.
