The Masters of Science degree (M.S.) in Instructional Technology & Learning Design (ITLD) provides graduate-level training for educators and prospective educators. Graduates have a variety of opportunities of employment as an instructional designer, curriculum designer, leading technology officer or an assessment officer.
ÁùºÏ±¦µä Our Program
The program focuses on the knowledge and skills of instructional design and using technology tools to improve teaching and learning, especially on the design of online learning and digital applications in education. The curriculum meets the ISTE National Technology Standards for Teachers. While a portion of the course work focuses on skill development, emphasis is also on examining theoretical and conceptual frameworks relating to instructional technology and learning design. Potential applicants are expected to have a relevant background in education with an interest in exploring the uses of instructional technology in classrooms or any educational and training settings.

Program Information
The application deadline for Spring admission is Oct. 15 and for Fall admission is March 15. If you miss the Graduate School deadline, you may still apply to be a Graduate Special to begin taking coursework for your intended first semester. Program requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
- Minimum 2.75 undergraduate grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
Please submit the following:
- Official transcripts from every institution attended for a complete history of your education
- Resume or curriculum vitae
- Statement of purpose
- Three letters of recommendation (your recommenders will be notified by email after you complete your online application)
- Statement of purpose: Please prepare an essay that includes a brief introduction of yourself. Provide in more detail your related experiences, why you chose to apply for this program and how you think technology could be used to improve teaching and learning.

Student learning outcomes
At the completion of the program, students will be able to:
SLO1. Discuss and evaluate the current trends, needs, applications, diversity issues, and research in the field of instructional technology and learning design
SLO2. Apply instructional design theories to create learner/user experienced design models and digital instructions
SLO3. Demonstrate the mastery of instructional design, technology, and project management skills in classrooms or any educational and training settings
SLO4. Conduct evaluation and assessment in instructional technology based applications, projects, courses, curriculum and programs.
The master's of science degree includes a minimum of 32 semester credits beyond the baccalaureate degree. The chair and advisory committee will work with students to formulate the program of study that meets the following requirements:
- Program orientation and assessment (2 credits)
- Research (6 credits)
- Equity and diversity (3 credits)
- Learning design (3 credits)
- ITLD foundation (6 credits)
- ITLD design and technology (12 credits)

Graduate assistantships are available through various departments in the College of Education & Human Development. Prospective students who indicate their interest in a graduate assistantship will be interviewed for one of multiple positions within the department following their application.
