Project SELF (Special Education Leaders of the Future) is a 325D Leadership project, funded by the Office of Special Education Programs in the U.S. Department of Education to address the significant national shortage of leaders in special education teacher education and leadership in policy and advocacy at the district and state levels.

Our project
This project at the College of Education and Human Development is a collaboration between the Special Education program and the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Center for Excellence in Disabilities. SELF will graduate scholars with a Ph.D. in Special Education and Disability Studies who possess essential leadership competencies for conducting research, preparing highly effective teachers, and participating in interdisciplinary service & community engagement.
Our goals
After enrolling our six funded scholars, our goals are to provide all scholars with high quality coursework, high quality internship experiences in research, teaching, and service, provide each scholar with unique mentoring and support to ensure completion of a quality dissertation, and ensure scholars obtain positions in special education leadership roles following degree completion.
Our research
Project SELF scholars and faculty are actively involved in conducting high-quality research that impacts the lives of children and youth with disabilities and their families, as well as advancing doctoral studies in Special Education and Disability Studies.
