If you graduate with a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting and have taken the appropriate electives, you are qualified to sit for the CPA exam in the State of ÁùºÏ±¦µä. Please note that additional education is required beyond a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting to become a licensed CPA. Contact the ÁùºÏ±¦µä State Board of Accountancy for more details on the CPA exam, and the additional requirements to become a licensed CPA in ÁùºÏ±¦µä. The combined major of accounting and information systems gives students a hybrid education that affords great career flexibility. Students use this major most frequently to pursue employment with consulting organizations that market, implement and maintain business information systems. A minor in Accounting complements a College of Business bachelor's degree program with financial knowledge critical to industry. It can also support a bachelor's degree program outside of the College of Business with a knowledge base of financial statement preparation and interpretation for public and private organizations as well as not-for-profits and governments. With a business minor, students can major in their principal academic interest but also gain real business knowledge that makes them attractive to employers. A student with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering who also earns a minor in Business Administration has the skill set necessary to not only succeed in designing electrical infrastructure, but also manage the company.

The Business Analytics minor is designed to prepare students for desirable and lucrative jobs in one of the fastest-growing areas in today’s global economy. The entrepreneurship minor is open to all students at the University, purposefully designed without prerequisites so any student can complement their major with entrepreneurial training. The Bachelor of Science in Finance provides students with knowledge essential for careers in financial management, banking, investments, and insurance. Students coming from the finance program have the skills necessary to credibly weigh in on fiscal matters associated with business investment and stock and mutual fund research and analysis. Moreover, the finance major is a good stepping-stone for students interested in earning an MBA or other postgraduate degree.

The objective of the international business major is to provide an interdisciplinary program of study that combines international studies and foreign language studies with a business degree. The major will benefit those students who seek to work in the international business world, as the program focuses on the principles and practices of businesses that cross national boundaries to operate in the global business environment. Each participant has the opportunity to specialize in a particular region — Asia and the Pacific, Europe or the Americas.

Traditionally, management includes the following activities: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. More specifically, management is responsible for the primary activities of the firm; those being inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service.

Management is also responsible for the support activities of infrastructure (accounting, finance, strategic planning), human resource management (recruiting, training and development, compensation management), technology development (product and process improvement), and procurement (material acquisition). Management majors are prepared for careers in either general management (or in the specialization of human resource management) or entrepreneurship based on concentration choice in General Management or Human Resource Management.

The Bachelor of Science in Marketing degree gives students strategic insight into one of the most vital components of modern business. Students will be able to help companies and organizations identify customers, develop advertising campaigns, conduct business development research, and explore new avenues of brand promotion. Marketing is both a social and managerial process. It is how individuals and groups obtain what they want through creating, offering, and exchanging products of value with others. By definition, "Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods, services, and ideas to create exchanges with target groups that satisfy customer and organizational objectives."

The Risk and Insurance Professional Studies program offers students a pathway to a rewarding career in risk management. Students will explore the functional risk areas—including corporate risk management, employee benefits, and insurance carrier, broker, and underwriter activities. Students will also learn about the industry’s Best Practices and acquire the technical skills required to succeed in various positions in the industry.

In addition, students will refine their skills in leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, risk forecasting, risk assessment, oral and written communication, problem-solving, attention to detail, interpersonal and cross-cultural relations, organizing and planning, and computer literacy.

Executive Certificate in Sports Management

The undergraduate Sports Management Minor in the College of Business provides an overview of the sports industry at all levels, from community sports commissions to major sports organizations, with a focus on the business side. The Sports Management minor is open to all students at the university.

Supply chain management plays a vital role in our societies and economies as was amply demonstrated by the recent pandemic. This industry is experiencing rapid expansion and a lack of young talent. This Minor is offered to engage Marketing, Business Management, Finance, and Information Systems Majors in the world of Supply Chain and Transportation Management.

With this Minor, students can apply their principle academic interest while gaining experience with our Northern ÁùºÏ±¦µä Business Community. Students can select from six SCM Courses and earn credit for paid internships and eventual permanent placement with globally recognized companies that seek supply chain and transportation talent from the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno College of Business.
