Landscape Ecology Research

Faculty in the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Science often conduct their research at landscape to regional scales, with emphasis on the interplay between spatial pattern and ecological process, and with application to the conservation and management of sustainable landscape systems. Research areas are various and interdisciplinary, but include landscape genetics, remote sensing of vegetation and land-cover change, animal movement and dispersal, and spatially-explicit modeling of forest dynamics and population viability of animal species. Much of this research is in the context of global environmental change, including climate change, altered disturbance regimes, habitat fragmentation and introductions of non-native species.
