Industrial hemp research

Under federal law, hemp is defined as “a plant of the genus Cannabis and any part of the plant, whether growing or not, containing a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of no more than three-tenths of one percent (0.3%) on a dry weight basis.”

With the signing of the , hemp and its derivatives were legalized (but still subject to federal and state oversight), establishing hemp as a regulated commodity. Further, the passage of provided the regulatory framework for industrial hemp research conducted by ÁùºÏ±¦µä institutions of higher education.

University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno researchers who wish to conduct industrial hemp research must register through the University and follow University procedures and guidelines related to growing, processing, and manufacturing hemp.
