Graduate programs

Our graduate programs offer the opportunity to interact with our active research faculty in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics, at the base of the Sierra ÁùºÏ±¦µä mountain range.

The Department of Mathematics offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics & Data Science. Within the Mathematics degrees, there are two programs of study. For detailed program descriptions and degree requirements, review the relevant program handbook.

Mathematics, Ph.D. and M.S.

The Ph.D. and M.S. programs in Mathematics are designed to provide training in fundamental methods and concepts of modern mathematics, including interdisciplinary collaborative research. The programs build research skills that will position students to be competitive in pursuing careers in an academic, government, or business environment.

Statistics and Data Science, Ph.D. and M.S.

The M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Statistics and Data Science are designed to provide training in fundamental methods and concepts of modern statistics focused on extracting knowledge from data. The programs emphasize interdisciplinary collaborative research with departments across campus, including neuroscience, biology, chemistry and more.
