Summary
Dr. Mary Ingram-Waters is the Associate Dean of the Honors College at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno, where she is also a Professor of Honors. Here at UNR, Waters works with faculty, staff, and leadership to create and support outstanding academic opportunities for honors students. Waters has been active in the discipline of honors for the last 14 years. She has presented at national honors conferences, published numerous policy briefs and white papers on best practices in honors, and taught or mentored thousands of honors students. Waters was previously the Assistant Dean of Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University where she taught as a member of the honors faculty for 13 years. At Barrett Honors College, Waters co-directed the Barrett College Fellows Undergraduate Research program which matched hundreds of honors students with research mentors. She also directed more than 60 honors theses.
Waters earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. At UCSB, she studied organizations, science, gender, and culture. Her most recent body of work has examined gender, race, and popular culture. For the last 10 years, Waters led a fantasy sports working group which brought together scholars, practitioners, and students, for regular dialogue and academic study of this very popular pastime. Waters has also published research on television, video games, sports, and fandoms, often with undergraduate honors students. Mary and her spouse, Jason, have three children and two dogs and enjoy hiking and outdoor activities.
