Karla Martin
My name is Karla Ruby Martin and I’m a first year student at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno and a Las Vegas native. I’m majoring in Veterinary Science and minoring in Biology with an emphasis in cell and molecular biology. I chose the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno as the university offered something I was passionate about and where I could further my academics to be a valid contender for Veterinary School. When I received an email saying I was auto-admitted to the Honors College, I didn’t really understand what that entailed. I just figured it would mean more work and stress, but I decided to challenge myself. In actuality, the Honors College was the best decision I could have made. I immediately found people who also have a passion for academics and furthering their careers. I also find that the Honors College has so far taught me discipline and a life beyond just grades. There’s opportunities for research, fellowships and internships. The Honors College so far has opened the door to many research opportunities that I plan to further explore later in my college career. However, I still want to be more connected to the Honors College which is why I became an ambassador. I want to help others find their purpose and a community of like-minded individuals while also growing their professional profile. By being in the Honors College, I am learning who I am, spreading the message of what we represent and making my dreams come true of becoming a Veterinarian.
