Summary

Gerald W. Petersen, associate professor of Spanish, emeritus, received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1966 and taught for a number of years at the University of Florida before coming to the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno, where he taught for 35 years. He served as department chair from 1991 to 1994 and was the Spanish undergraduate advisor for the department until he retired in 2003. He was also the supervisor of all first and second-year Spanish courses before 2000. His love of learning and knowledge was apparent even in short conversations with him. His active mind and desire to share what he learned made him a wonderful teacher. In addition to being a professor at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno, Petersen was a dedicated and active citizen. He served in the Air National Guard from 1952-1961. He was interested in politics and successfully managed the campaign for a ÁùºÏ±¦µä State Assemblyman in 1972. Petersen passed away December 22, 2019 at the age of 84.
