Grants are sources of free money that typically do not have to be repaid and can come from the federal government, the University and other sources.
Institutional grants
The University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno provides a variety of grants as a form of financial aid to qualified students. Learn more about these grant opportunities below.
Pack Promise+ is a program designed for low-income, ÁùºÏ±¦µä residents at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. The award guarantees eligible undergraduate students a combination of gift awards (including but not limited to grants, scholarships, stipends and tuition/fee waivers) which will cover registration in 15 credits and mandatory fees and books each fall and spring semester.
Funding occurs in late summer.
The Access Grant is an institution grant awarded to need-based students at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. To be eligible, students must be either undergraduate or graduate students who meet enrollment requirements.
- Undergraduate students: Must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credits
- Graduate students: Must be enrolled at least half-time
Note: National Merit Scholars and Fellows are not eligible for need-based grants including, Pack Promise+, FESOG, and State Access grants
Federal grants
The U.S. Department of Education provides several types of federal grants for students attending four-year universities, such as the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. Learn more about these grants below.
The Federal Pell Grant is a federal grant awarded to undergraduate students with significant financial need. To be eligible, students must file an annual Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), be an undergraduate student pursuing their first bachelor's degree. Students must meet enrollment requirements and be enrolled at least half-time, but less than half-time enrollment may be allowed in certain circumstances.
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a federal grant administered by the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. To be eligible, students must be an undergraduate student pursuing their first bachelor's degree and be Federal Pell Grant eligible applicants. Students must maintain enrollment and be enrolled at least half-time.
The TEACH Grant program is a federal program that provides grants of up to $4,000 annually to students who are pursuing or completing course work and degree programs to start a career in teaching.
If you do not meet the requirements of your service obligation, all TEACH Grants you received will be converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans. You must repay these loans in full, with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.
