Admissions requirements
Each year, we welcome applications from a diverse mix of students from across the world. The University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno is a place where you can challenge yourself academically, establish friendships, learn the skills and build the knowledge necessary to solve the problems of tomorrow. Learn more about freshman requirements below.
Are you a new freshman?
- You are applying during your senior year of high school or home school (with or without college coursework);
- You have already graduated high school and have no college coursework; or
- You have already graduated high school and have completed 23 or fewer college credits after high school.
If you will have completed 24 or more college credits after high school, please apply as a transfer student.
New freshman admissions requirements
To be admitted as a new freshman student, you must be a graduate of an accredited or University-approved high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) or home school, and satisfy the below requirements:

You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted AGPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a ÁùºÏ±¦µä System of Higher Education (NSHE) community college. You will be offered admission to a ÁùºÏ±¦µä university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE community college and have a 2.5 GPA in all your transferable coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a ÁùºÏ±¦µä high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

Standardized test scores are not required for admission
Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
