Excellence in Laboratory Safety Award
Award summary
Environmental Health & Safety annually presents one Excellence in Laboratory Safety Award to a University faculty member and their research group for exhibiting excellence in laboratory safety and upholding the University’s core values of the safety of faculty, staff, students and visitors, as well as environmental stewardship.
The recipient will receive $2,000 and be recognized at the Honor the Best Ceremony.

Selection committee
Environmental Health & Safety will select three research groups that they feel best demonstrated excellence in laboratory safety. These three finalists will be presented to the faculty-led Laboratory Safety Committee, who will select the award winner.
Award criteria
The winner of the award will be selected based on the following laboratory safety elements.
- Safety program leadership
- Safety program implementation
- New or innovative safety methods
- Sustained excellence in safety performance
- Safety program improvement
- Laboratory safety performance
Eligibility
All research groups that are led by a University faculty member whose research involves laboratory work and use of any combination of chemicals, biological materials, lasers, radioactive materials, or physical hazards are eligible to receive this award.
