The Department of History condemns racism in all its forms and encourages students to learn how racist practices and policies have shaped the United States and the world. Far from being a natural or inherent result of human differences, racism is the product of unequal power relationships and deliberate decisions made by people in the past and present. Racism has a history and it is the collective responsibility of everyone seeking to end injustice to study and understand that history in keeping with the ethical standards established by our discipline. The University of ��ϱ��, Reno is located on the traditional homelands of the Numu (Northern Paiute), Nuwu (Southern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone) and the Wašiw (Washoe) Peoples.

History events

“History in the Present” is a webinar series hosted by the Department of History that historicizes current events, shares cutting-edge research, and aims to promote dialogue on issues of interest between the University and the broader community. As historians, we work across disciplines and collaborate with a broad range of people outside of the University. Thus, in addition to history faculty, museum curators, NGO leaders and experts on the environment and human rights will also be presenting in this webinar series.
