Physicians serve a fundamental role in our society and have an effect upon all our lives. They are responsible for the diagnosis of disease or injury and the prescription of treatment, therapy, medication and vaccination. Physicians may request other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury. The physician may carry out the treatment or delegate such tasks to other health care professionals who work under his or her supervision, e.g. nurses, assistants and other medical staff.

- Attend a Pre-Med Informational Session
- Schedule an initial appointment with a pre-professional peer advisor
- Discuss your academic goals and plans
- Explore all healthcare career options
- Review your student data information on MyÁùºÏ±¦µä Discuss course prerequisites for the pre-med track
- Begin to build your E-A-M (Experience-Attributes-Metrics)
- Meet with a pre-professional advisor to review academic progress
- Discuss areas of needed improvement or shifts in academic plans
- Choose a major (if you haven't already done so)
- Continue being involved in campus/community-related leadership activities
- Research and seek summer internships, volunteer opportunities or research experience
- Start researching schools of interest - a good way to begin is with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) websites
- Become familiar with MCAT exam subjects
- Sign up for related pre-med workshops e.g. mock MMI interviews, personal statement writing
- Make a list of schools you are interested in and request information
- MCAT: register, study and take exam. Consult a pre-professional advisor for test dates
- Apply for the AAMC's Fee Assistance Program and/or AACOMAS Application Fee Waiver
