Each year, graduating engineering students work in teams to develop a product that's ready for the marketplace. These senior capstone projects are the highlight of Innovation Day.

Innovation Day 2024 contest winners

  • The staybright team, Mechanical Engineering team 8, won gold in the Engineering Design category of the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. The team is Chase Owens, Matthew Bouchard, Jacob Denton, Nicholas Nelson and Stephanie Harkness, seen with NNSS representatives Adam Wolverton and Erik Stassinos.
  • The Otis Vaughn Middle School Replacement Project by Civil & Environmental Engineering team 15, won silver in the Engineering Design category of the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. The team is Karlie Del Santo, Michaela Bruns, Elana Ketchian and Naomi Schlageter, seen with NNSS representatives Adam Wolverton and Erik Stassinos.
  • The Ionic Crown team, Electrical Engineering team 2, won bronze in the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. The team is Kenneth Matthews, Tiffany Noda, D’Andre Aitala and Melody Dorsey, seen with NNSS representatives Adam Wolverton and Erik Stassinos.
  • The Ur Next Route team, Computer Science & Engineering team 26, won gold in the Global Impact category of the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. the team is Kurtis Bertauche, Anna Desorcy, Michael Munakash and Kathleen Scafidi, seen with NNSS representatives Adam Wolverton and Erik Stassinos.
  • The Helios team, Mechanical Engineering team 7, won silver in the Global Impact category of the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. The team is Alexander Contreras, Chase Jackson, Brady Rodina, Teegan Valenzula and Levi Williams, seen with NNSS representatives Adam Wolverton and Erik Stassinos.
  • The Ionic Crown team, Electrical Engineering team 2, won bronze in the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Sites. Welcome to Innovation Day

Innovation Day is when College of Engineering seniors showcase innovations, plans and developments that solve real-world problems and/or better our lives. These projects, often done in conjunction with industry partners, are the culmination of work done in senior Capstone courses, which span two semesters and are required for graduation. 

Explore student projects in seven disciplines: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. 

New this year is the Capstone Design Project Competition sponsored by the ÁùºÏ±¦µä National Security Site. A multidisciplinary panel of engineers and community leaders will assess projects submitted for the competition on their collective impact to the field of engineering as a whole.

The projects you see during Innovation Day demonstrate the creativity, intellectual rigor and teamwork needed to address the challenges and needs of the years ahead.
