All BSW students must complete a professional sequence that encompasses a series of classes tied to a 450-hour internship at a social service agency. These classes in conjunction with the internship are designed to provide the professional socialization, knowledge, values and skills needed for entry-level social work practice.
Students entering the professional sequence are expected to be ready to engage with clients, to practice within the boundaries and scope of the profession and to behave in manners congruent with the profession's values and ethics. While this sequence of classes and internship may be completed in one full-time or two part-time academic years, it is designed to be a culminating experience during the student's senior year.
Students may apply to the BSW professional sequence during the winter of their junior year.

During field, you'll spend about 15 hours per week in a community-based setting where you'll practice and demonstrate core competencies through in-person contact with clients & constituencies. You'll actively observe and experience social work practice, reflect on your experiences, and construct personal practice guidelines. You learn how to act as professional social workers, observe how research informs practice, and see the impact of policy on service delivery. At the end of field practicum, you'll have a broad base of foundational social work skills to practice effectively with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
The School of Social Work partners with more than 300 nonprofit agencies, governmental entities, and private businesses across ÁùºÏ±¦µä to ensure students have access to a wide variety of practicum sites to meet their learning goals. Example of areas of focus include the following:
