Summary
Hello! My name is Analee Bernal, I am a neuroscience major, and I grew up in a low-income immigrant family from the Philippines. As one of the first-generation students in my family, my parents didn’t know how to help me transition to college, so I had to navigate the process on my own. Being a first-generation student gave me a lot of pressure and it felt like I was just bumbling along hoping things work out. But it also gave me as much dedication to do my best. I think what helped me the most was having a group of people that helped guide me and a trusted group of friends that I could study with. I think this program would provide students like me a community that we can confide in and rely on. I hope other first-generation students are also able to stand strong in themselves and their experiences while forming connections with resources available.
