The College of Engineering ranked 120 on the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools ranked in 2024, up one place from the previous year. The media company released engineering rankings on June 18.

“We’re pleased to be on in this list and encouraged to see our College climb in the rankings,” Acting Dean Indira Chatterjee said. “This reflects the quality of our faculty, staff and students as well as our commitment to provide a globally competitive education.”

The College is on the cusp of expansion: a new industrial engineering program is set to debut in fall 2024, and the aerospace program — which currently offers a minor degree — will expand to offer additional degrees in years to come, thanks to the $36 million Gillemot gift announced in fall 2023.

U.S. News bases its Best Engineering Schools graduate school rankings on research activity, faculty resources, academic achievements of entering students, and assessments by other engineering schools and employers. This year’s methodology changed slightly. U.S. News reports that a few bibliometrics (the application of statistical methods to the study of bibliographic data) were incorporated, and the faculty resource metrics for master’s degree students were dropped. Those changes were due in part to a 2023 American Society for Engineering Education survey.
