The University seeks donations for student food insecurity as part of Giving Tuesday

With an average of 350 visitors a week, the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno's on-campus food pantry, Pack Provisions, helps members of the Wolf Pack on campus experiencing food insecurity to meet their basic needs. According to a 2022 Civic Engagement survey conducted by the Center for Student Engagement, one in four undergraduate students reported experiencing food insecurity. Reported need has increased 3% since the survey was last conducted in 2020. 

This #GivingTuesday, Nov. 28, until the end of the year, the University and Pack Provisions are asking for community assistance to raise $25,000 to support University students in need. , in any amount, can help a struggling student thrive physically, mentally and academically.

"We are honored and grateful for any support to Pack Provisions,” said Hanin Abboud Rodriguez, student outreach coordinator for the Center for Student Engagement at the University. “Supporting students to help meet their basic needs is pertinent to their success, ensuring they remain focused on finishing their degree without worrying about where their next meal will come from. With these donations, we will continue serving our students and work toward eliminating barriers and challenges to achieve academic success.” 

A service provided by the  (ASUN) and managed by the Center for Student Engagement, Pack Provisions offers perishable and nonperishable foods to University community members. During the 2022-2023 academic year, the pantry accommodated nearly 9,000 visits, doubling the number of visits from the previous academic year. 

“When I do feel hungry, it does become a lot harder to concentrate in classes and stay awake and attentive,” one Pack Provisions student visitor said.
