Summary
Ezra C. Holston began his research in aging by examining physical and psychological responses of Black female caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In the Brain Research Laboratories, he studied electrophysiology and quantitative electroencephalography in order to (1) examine how abnormal electrophysiological changes related to symptoms of AD, and (2) investigate the electrophysiology of retrogenesis. Through post-doctoral work, he confirmed an abnormal electrophysiological pattern in persons with clinical AD and described the relationship between selected alleles and symptoms of AD. Using his theory of the electrophysiological phenomenon of AD, his aging research focuses on how electrophysiological changes relate to biological and psychosocial mechanisms for improved assessment and diagnosing of AD in ethnic minorities.
