Summary

Evan Brody (Ph.D., University of Southern California) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno. His general areas of focus include Media Studies, Critical/Cultural Studies, Queer Theory/LGBTQ+ Studies, and Sport Communication. Brody is also a faculty associate with the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity.

Dr. Brody’s research examines the relationship between media content and industries, cultural practices, and LGBTQ+ identities and communities, particularly as they relate to sports culture. Specifically, Brody investigates the ways in which norms are produced by, and through, media texts, communication practices, and economic policies in order to better understand how they affect lived realities. Brody’s work utilizes a variety of qualitative methods, including textual/discourse analysis, field studies, in-depth interviews, netnographies, and surveys. In addition to his academic appointment, Brody consults for entertainment and consumer goods companies, as well as brand strategy firms.

When not focused on academic work, Dr. Brody loves to spend time with his rescue dogs, traveling, and attending performing arts events. He is also a proud supporter of, and season ticket holder for, the Las Vegas Aces.

Dr. Brody is a member of the graduate faculty and is currently accepting graduate students.
