What will I learn in a women’s, gender, and sexuality studies minor?

This interdisciplinary program provides you with an understanding of women in historical and contemporary contexts and an exploration of gender as it influences scholarship and human relations. The program is multicultural, emphasizing the intersection of race, class, sexuality, gender and ethnicity. 

You will analyze contributions women have made throughout history as well as their omission from traditional approaches to scholarship and centers of power. You'll also study contemporary issues concerning gender and sexual orientation in culture and society.

You will:

  • Consider the intersections of race, class, sexuality, gender and ethnicity
  • Compare and analyze male and female gender roles in family and society
  • Study gender as it influences scholarship and human relations
  • Explore the contributions of women to history, literature and academia
  • Examine the power dynamics between genders from global issues to personal relationships
  • Encourage critical thinking and new perspectives on the role of women in society

The Religious Studies minor is offered by the Department of Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts. The department offers degree programs that explore inequality and social justice to prepare graduates for careers in public advocacy, politics, education and more. 

Professors in the Department of Anthropology represent a variety of academic disciplines and bring and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research that focuses on better understanding the diverse range of human experiences.
