Academic support resources and recovery policies

This message was sent to undergraduate students at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno.

As the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno moves completely remote for classes this week, we want you to know that our faculty and staff are actively taking steps to support you and help keep you on track to your degree. We have every confidence in your success, but the unforeseeable nature of these months and the pandemic have shown that it is important to have many contingencies. To that end, the University has adopted several Academic Recovery Policies to help you stay on track or get back on track.

  • Grade replacement:  Allows you to retake a course at UNR to "replace" the original grade with an "R" grade, thus removing the original from the transcript and GPA.  COVID-19 exceptions exist for courses taken during Spring 2020/Summer 2020/Fall 2020.  Classes taken during the pandemic will be excepted from the credit limitations and the policy will cover 300-400 level classes during this time period.   • COVID-19 S/U policy: The COVID-19 S/U policy has been extended through Spring 2021. This allows students to see their final grade and determine if they would like to change it to an S/U grading basis rather than the original grade. Although utilization of this policy may help in the short term, this policy can have long term impacts where we urge you to talk to advisors about your short-term and long-term goals. Forms will not be available until December 22; however, you can be proactive and see your academic advisor to make plans contingent on the grades. Please see our COVID S/U policy for details.
  • Suspension of academic probation/dismissal action: The University will suspend the Probation/Dismissal policy. Regardless of GPA, students will not receive notation on their transcript nor will they progress in probation status. Students will not be dismissed from the University for academic performance as a result of the pandemic.

Additionally, you may receive email alerts from your Academic Advisor, Enrollment Services, Faculty, and other Student Affairs Professionals with information about specific resources such as faculty office hours, academic advising, counseling services, or financial aid.  These alerts are here to support you and provide you more information on services that are offered by the university and are available to you during these times of constant change and unpredictability.  Academic advisors, enrollment services, and many other student supports stand ready to help you utilize these policies and university resources to keep you on track to your degree as we all navigate these unforeseen times.
