Summary
Derek has a background in both chemistry and physics, making the Chemical Physics program a natural choice for him. He is currently a member of Dr. Tucker's group in the Department of Chemistry. His research utilizes ultrafast spectroscopy to investigate the dynamics of a variety of systems, many of which have biological significance, on short timescales.
Research interests
- Photostability and energy transfer in biologically relevant systems
- Micelle rupture timescales via incorporation of photoswitches
- RNA/DNA folding and dynamics
- Vibrational probes as reporters of peptide and protein dynamics
