From Mozart to Ives
Apex Concerts opens its Fourteenth Season with a sensational program.
Purchase ticketsApex Concerts opens its Fourteenth Season with a sensational program, in the hands of legendary pianist Gilbert Kalish, the violin virtuoso Chad Hoopes, alonside Apex Co-Directors Dmitri Atapine and Hyeyeon Park. A program of anniversaries, 2024 marks 200 years since the birth of BedÅ™ich Smetana and 150 since the birth of Charles Ives. Both composers were revolutionary and philosophically connected on multiple levels: Smetana searching for Czech identity, while Ives discovering the American one as a true “American Original.” A world of influences and circumstances surrounds these names. The sunny inventiveness of Mozart measured against the turbulent passion of Smetana, the poetic lyricism of DvoÅ™ak (so inspired by Smetana) streaming directly to the groundbreaking ingenuity of Ives.
