Ph.D. dissertation title: Explaining the Emergence of Sociopolitical Complexity in the Western Great Basin Middle Archaic

Rocky Brockway was accepted to the anthropology Ph.D. program at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno in 2018. Prior to his acceptance, he worked for more than 15 years in cultural resource management throughout the U.S. He has broad interests in hunter-gatherer archaeology and Great Basin prehistory. His dissertation research aims to describe and explain the emergence of social and political complexity within western Great Basin hunter gatherers between 4500-1250 BP. Specifically, his work will assess settlement patterns, social networks and patterns of culture transmission to explain how individuals, families and groups interacted with one another to manage competing and mutual interests.
