Statement on Israel-Gaza
October 12, 2023
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
The grave events and the tragic loss of life taking place right now in Israel and Gaza has filled us with utter shock and sadness. As the war has escalated to the Gaza Strip in reaction to the terror attacks, we are deeply disheartened by the death and destruction unleashed by Hamas that targeted citizens in Israel this past weekend, and by the war in Israel and Gaza now under way.
I condemn terrorist atrocities of any kind. The loss of innocent lives is deplorable. Such inhumanity is abhorrent, whatever one’s individual views of the origins of longstanding conflicts in the region. Acts of violence, hate, antisemitism, or discrimination have no place in our world.
As we mourn the loss of all lives in the Middle East, I want to call out events like these and acknowledge the distress of our community members impacted by them. I encourage anyone who has been affected by these terrible, violent events either directly or indirectly, to seek out University resources that are available to help.
As a community of scholars, we must continue to find ways where all members of our campus community feel that they are safe and supported. I encourage everyone on our campus to remember to show respect, understanding and empathy for others during this difficult time, and as a university community, we must remain committed to dialogue and peaceful discourse.
We pray for a peaceful resolution to the events that have unfolded over the past week.
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
