Tuesday's historic visit
April 19, 2023
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
On Tuesday, April 18, our campus came together to welcome the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, for an official White House visit in Nightingale Hall. The energy from the very beginning of the day was palpable. Hundreds of our students, faculty and staff gathered in anticipation of Vice President Harris’ talk. It was a deep and profound honor for our University to host the Vice President.
I sincerely believe that what she saw on Tuesday is what our campus does so very well. Here we were, in the midst of what is traditionally one of the busiest times of our spring semester, yet we made time to respectfully and with a great deal of Wolf Pack warmth, welcome an historic, groundbreaking figure in our nation’s history to the Nightingale Hall. It was an event that spoke to the heart of our institutional mission, which is to do the kind of work that changes our world. When we do this, the world takes notice. On Tuesday, an official White House visit by the Vice President ensured that the world was indeed watching our campus.
I wish to thank Vice President Harris for her visit, as well as City of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and Rosario Dawson for moderating the discussion. And I wish to thank all of the students, faculty and staff who were on hand on Tuesday for providing a Wolf Pack Welcome that Vice President Harris and her staff will surely not forget.

Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
