DACA Ten Year Anniversary
June 15, 2022
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
I hope this message finds you well. It has been wonderful to see our campus shifting to summer operations, including the energy of visitors coming to our campus for a variety of activities, as well as the excitement of summer session classes. I hope you are finding this time productive and restorative.
Today is a very important date, marking the 10-year anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. On June 15, 2012, this policy provided temporary protections for more than 800,000 individuals. DACA included educational opportunities for these individuals at institutions of higher education, which include our University. We are extremely proud of, and stand with, our DACA students and their families.
I wish to encourage you to read a wonderful NSights Blog that has been written by Janet Najera, our University’s DACA Social Services Coordinator. For the past several years, our University has made a commitment to provide our DACA students with a number of resources needed to successfully navigate the often complex path in reaching graduation – academic support, educational protections and benefits, legal support, mental health support and more. Janet’s role on our campus in connecting our DACA students and their families with these resources is central to our student success mission of ensuring that students realize their hopes and their dreams and become our leaders of the future.
Please join me in providing support by advocating for the best path forward for our DACA students and their families.
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
