NVGB students immersed in a global business study abroad trip in Singapore, where learning extends beyond the classroom to real-world experiences, fostering cross-cultural insights and lasting memories.

The ÁùºÏ±¦µä Global Business Program (NVGB) conducted a full year of travel in 2023 with students and faculty participating in a series of classes abroad, providing an immersive learning experience. The diverse program locations included visits to Singapore in January, South Korea during Spring Break, and Toronto, New York, London, Turkey and Argentina in the summer months.

The program aims to enhance cross-cultural understanding, foster global networking opportunities and provide practical insights into the worldwide marketplace.

“My NVGB trips to Singapore and London weren't just sightseeing sprees; I gained as much applicable knowledge in these week-long global business classes as I do in a semester, served with a side of cultural immersion," MBA Alumni Jon Lau said. "Witnessing firsthand how businesses operate in these diverse hubs broadened my perspective and breathed real-world context into the theories we dissected in class. It was like watching a textbook come to life, but way more engaging! Plus, forging bonds with my classmates amidst the bustling streets and iconic landmarks created memories that will last a lifetime."

In January, participants found themselves in Singapore, a key global business hub known for its dynamic economy and multicultural atmosphere. The trip included visits to leading companies like Marina Bay Sands and Microsoft along with networking events with industry leaders.

During Spring Break, the focus shifted to South Korea, offering students a unique blend of traditional and modern business landscapes. With its vibrant tech scene and traditional markets, Seoul provided a rich backdrop for exploring the details of the South Korean economy.

As summer approached, the College of Business took its students on a whirlwind tour of global financial and cultural centers. Toronto, New York and London were stops that showcased the economic prowess of these cities, with visits to stock exchanges, financial institutions and discussions with experts in the field.

The journey continued to Turkey, where the fusion of Eastern and Western influences offered insights into a unique market. Students had the opportunity to engage with businesses like KWORKS and understand the challenges and opportunities in this transcontinental nation.

The final leg of the global expedition brought participants to Argentina, a country known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse economic sectors. Visits to local businesses and discussions with industry professionals allowed students to grasp the nuances of the South American market.

“The emphasis on practical real-world business applications was an aspect of the program that stood out to me the most. We were provided with valuable hands-on experience with international business and management!" Undergraduate student Aileen Cruz said. "Without hesitation I would definitely recommend students to take advantage of the NVGB programs.”

The ÁùºÏ±¦µä Global Business trips in 2023 are a testament to the College of Business's dedication to providing students with a well-rounded education beyond textbooks. However, there is much to look forward to in the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Global Business Program this year.

“Students can expect to learn about international business and culture in ways they have never engaged," Jim McClenahan, executive director of outreach and engagement, said. "They will get to apply all their classroom learning in boardrooms, meeting with international leaders to discuss the challenges and successes with international organizations. They will learn the foundations of history and culture necessary to be successful in business in a particular region. Most of all, they can expect to be amazed in the company of friends and expand their networks globally for success in the future.”

As participants return to campus, they bring a wealth of experiences and insights that will undoubtedly shape their future endeavors in the business world.
