ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s state nickname is the “Silver State” but could just as easily be the “Steaming State” because of its abundance of geothermal resources. On April 16 at 6 p.m., the at the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno is hosting a ÁùºÏ±¦µä Geothermal Town Hall, which aims to inform ÁùºÏ±¦µäns about this powerful natural resource.
The event will begin with a primer on geothermal in ÁùºÏ±¦µä presented by Cary Lindsey, Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy research scientist and Jim Faulds, director of the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Bureau of Mine and Geology, ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s geological survey. Topics will include an introduction to geothermal energy, the state’s role in harnessing geothermal power and the impact on local communities and how the University contributes to the advancement of this technology. After learning about geothermal energy, attendees will hear from a panel of experts in industry and state agencies located in ÁùºÏ±¦µä.
Questions for panelists will be taken at the event and can also be submitted before the event to geothermal@unr.edu. The event will be held in the Redfield Auditorium in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center on the University campus and refreshments will be provided by Ormat Technologies and the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Regional Interest Group of Geothermal Rising.
