The University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno has been announced as one of the select partner colleges in the country to participate in TechWise, a diversity, equity and inclusion program created by TalentSprint Inc., a global innovator in transformational DeepTech programs, and supported by Google. The program enables students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to prepare for high-growth tech careers.

“I applaud President Brian Sandoval, the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno and the ÁùºÏ±¦µä System of Higher Education and all our other partners who are pushing ÁùºÏ±¦µä's workforce development priority forward,” ÁùºÏ±¦µä Governor Steve Sisolak said. “Partnerships like these play a pivotal role in developing our workforce by empowering our students to grow and learn from some of the biggest tech companies in the world. Now more than ever, we must harness the educational opportunities higher education and the private sector can provide to prepare students for the jobs of the future.”

Twenty undergraduate students from the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno will be awarded full program scholarships to participate in the 18-month virtual program, which provides technical training, one-on-one Google mentorship and a $5,000 stipend. The program empowers students to become world-class, entry-level software engineers by the time they graduate college. Students will begin classes in March 2022.

"Public-private partnerships such as this innovative collaboration between the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno and TalentSprint Inc. will not only create opportunities for students but also strengthen the University’s relationship with ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s growing tech industry,” ÁùºÏ±¦µä System of Higher Education (NSHE) Chancellor Melody Rose said. “This is a fantastic opportunity with enormous potential — I am grateful for President Sandoval and his team for bringing this partnership to the University.”

This partnership aligns with the University’s on-going efforts to enhance students’ digital skillsets. Most recently, the University announced the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative, a pilot program developed to provide technology to incoming freshman in fall 2021.

“Reaching our goal where each and every one of our students can reach their truest potential is an integral part of our University’s mission,” University President Brian Sandoval said. “This innovative partnership promises to provide an exciting springboard toward a possible career pathway for our participating students. Along with the launch of the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative, this partnership also provides a transformational example of why an education at our University can often provide a key personal discovery that illuminates who our students are meant to be and the impact they are going to have on our world.”
