Students and the public are invited to explore the joy, challenges and humanity of aging today as part of Aging Appreciation Week, April 4 to 6, 2022.

The programs are sponsored by the Gerontology Academic Program, part of the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of ϱ, Reno School of Medicine. All events are free, and all will be held via Zoom.

APRIL 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. — AGEx panel discussion: Aging is for EveryBODY

AGEx (Applied Gerontology Experience) is a TEDx-inspired event. It is our goal to create appreciation and awareness of aging through a multifaceted lens. This year’s event will be centered around the theme “What does aging mean to you?” Three speakers will share their experience with aging, followed by a Q-and-A session. This event kicks off our Aging Appreciation Week events!

APRIL 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. — Taste of Reno: Celebrating Meals and Memories

Join us via Zoom to talk about food, memories and tasty traditions. This event celebrates a cookbook collaboration between UNR students and members of Osher Lifelong Learning Center (OLLI). Everyone will be invited to share their stories!

APRIL 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. — Disrupt Aging: Challenge your Perceptions

Encounter thought-provoking ways of looking at aging and explore society’s perceptions of older adults. The program challenges people to discuss demographic trends, ageism, and their personal and professional stakes related to aging.

  • FACILITATORS: Patti Swager, M.Ed., director of the ϱ Geriatric Education Center (NGEC), and Natalie Mazzullo, M.Ed., associate director of NGEC and healthy aging engagement coordinator, Health & Nutrition Extension
