The Wolf Pack Marching Band and Howlers Pep Band have played an important role in representing the University at events at home and across the country since 1980. After a difficult year of navigating the pandemic, the Pride of the Sierra is back and are marching into Mackay Stadium Saturday for the Homecoming Game against Hawaii.
The Wolf Pack Marching Band and Howlers Pep Band are two of the most visible organizations on campus. With about 200 marching band students, the program continues to grow in size, performance success and recognition within the community. The Wolf Pack Marching Band and Howlers Pep Band entertain hundreds of thousands of University sports enthusiasts each year.
This growth is only possible through the support of alumni and friends. Support provides scholarships to students in need and helps purchase new uniforms and repair instruments.
"Our uniforms and instruments take a beating during the year and repairs and replacements are costly," Stephen Eubanks, director of bands and lecturer of music education, said. "We’re excited to announce that the Marching Band will be debuting a new look in Fall 2022 with new uniforms, as the current uniforms are nearly a decade old."
Gifts to the band will have double the impact thanks to an ongoing partnership with Greater ÁùºÏ±¦µä Credit Union, which is again offering a dollar-for-dollar matching gift up to $15,000. For nearly ten years, Greater ÁùºÏ±¦µä has proudly provided generous support to the athletic bands, motivating students and helping the band and community thrive.
Whether it’s a taste of Motown that will have fans “Dancin’ in the Street” at a Mackay stadium football game, a high-spirited basketball halftime show, or a rendition of the “Magnificent Seven and Battle Hymn of the Republic” at the upcoming ÁùºÏ±¦µä Day parade, the Pride of the Sierra is providing entertainment and spreading Wolf Pack pride everywhere they perform.
"The athletic bands are fantastic ambassadors for our University, reaching beyond campus boundaries to inspire students, alumni and the community across our region," Eubanks said. "Each year however, the athletic bands operate on a very limited budget."
Gifts to the Wolf Pack Marching and Pep Bands are tax-deductible. Supporters can give online at crowdfund.unr.edu/MarchingBand. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.
