The internship director for the Reynolds School of Journalism offers advice for students: learn new skills and update your résumé

Greetings, I'm Claudia Cruz, internship director at the Journalism School.

I'm here in my apartment in downtown Reno, and like all of you I'm supporting efforts to reduce the outbreak of this virus working from home.

Honestly, this transition has been a little difficult for me. I only arrived in Reno nine months ago, and I love going to UNR every day to walk around the beautiful campus and interact with all of you the students and my new colleagues.

On the other hand, I love my little house (because I don't have roommates), and I have a beautiful view of the Sierra ÁùºÏ±¦µä, that allows me to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of this city without having to go outside.

I'm still working the same hours as before, although I'm honestly distracted. I'm from New York, and I share the sadness that many now feel in my dear city.

But I'm not the only one worried. Many of my journalism students and public relations, they don't know if they'll be able to find a job.

To them – and all the students – I recommend to use this time to enhance their resumes, learn new software, get certified in any necessary subject, and complete those projects that they put aside.

I too am trying to improve on things. I finally unpacked all the moving boxes. I'm cooking more, taking better care of my plants, and I have a shelf full of books, some which I have yet to finish reading and which I hope to get to this weekend.

And so I’m not alone, this week I went to the Humane Society and now I have a foster cat. I'd show her, but she's a coward, and she's in hiding.

To everyone in the Wolf Pack family, I send a lot of love in these times. And I remind you that there is light at the end of this tunnel. I'll see you on the other side.
