The recognized the University of ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Reno’s Reynolds School of Journalism this week with the 2019 AEJMC Equity & Diversity Award. The school was honored for its efforts to enhance diversity and inclusion in journalism and mass communication education.
“The selection committee members were incredibly impressed with the school's Spanish-language media initiatives, programs like the Next Generation Radio ÁùºÏ±¦µä Boot Camp, efforts to recruit and retain diverse faculty and programs like the Diversity Fellow in Residence to bring distinguished media professionals of color to campus,” the AEJMC announcement read.
The award recognizes journalism and mass communication academic programs that demonstrate measurable success in increasing equity and diversity within their units. Programs must display progress and innovation in racial, gender and ethnic equality and diversity over a previous three-year period. The Reynolds School is the 11th recipient of this award.
“It’s extremely meaningful to receive this recognition from AEJMC,” Reynolds School dean Al Stavitsky said. “Our students, faculty and staff are deeply committed to this work.”
The award will be presented during the 2019 AEJMC Conference in Toronto, Canada, in August 2019. The AEJMC is a nonprofit, educational association of journalism and mass communication educators, students and media professionals.
