KUNR won regional Murrow Awards for best news series, excellence in innovation and best feature

earned a for best news series in the small market radio category today for their series on affordable housing, "." students Bree Zender, Jacob Solis, Tim Lenard and Joey Lovato, alumnae Krysta Scripter and Michelle Matus and other KUNR reporters contributed to the project.

For the series, KUNR reporters produced more than 30 in-depth stories, including sound-rich features and detailed interviews with local stakeholders. The station also produced videos and audiograms for social media, as well as a 10-episode podcast with extended interviews with its reporters about what they learned during the reporting process. The series ended with a live community event to provide residents with access to local experts.  

"We examined the crisis from several lenses, including economic, public health and political angles," Michelle Billman, KUNR news director, said. "We also made sure to talk to real, everyday ϱns who are struggling."

In addition, KUNR won regional Murrow Awards for excellence in innovation for its bilingual partnership with , a bilingual news outlet at the Reynolds School, and best feature for Reynolds School alumna Holly Hutchings' story covering an .   

The Murrow Awards are selected by the (RTDNA). They honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism, awarding news stations, networks, syndication services, program services and digital news organizations. The awards are named for the legendary broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow.  

These professional award-winning entries are now eligible for the national Murrow competition. Last year, KUNR reporter Stephanie Serrano won a national Murrow Award for radio sports reporting.
