The speaker for this year’s College of Engineering Distinguished Lecture Series is Allan Swan, the President of Panasonic Energy of North America. Swan leads the team at the Gigafactory in Sparks, ÁùºÏ±¦µä in producing the world’s safest, highest-quality, best performing lithium-ion batteries used by Tesla in all of their cars.
Swan’s talk will focus on Panasonic and their Next 100 Years: the disruptive innovations, the perpetuation of a unique employee focused philosophy and the exciting impact the company is having on the Northern ÁùºÏ±¦µä region.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019 at the Milt Glick Ballroom, 4th floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union.
Previously, Swan was Senior Vice President of Operations for the Defense Sector in the U.S. for Rolls-Royce, and has held several senior executive leadership positions in operations and corporate strategies for Thyssen Krupp and United Technologies as well. During his time with Rolls-Royce, he was responsible for five manufacturing plants with over 1,500 employees. He has been in his current role with Panasonic since September 2018.
Swan is a graduate of Southampton University with a Master’s degree in global supply chain management, and also holds numerous management diplomas.

The Distinguished Lecture Series was started in 2010 by Dean Manos Maragakis. There will be a poster session featuring student engineering projects at 5 pm, and the lecture will begin at 6 pm. This event is free and open to the public, with event parking available on the top level of the West Stadium Parking Complex. We encourage those interested in attending to RSVP.
