What could be better than a weekend trip to the museum? How about a trip to 11 of them? The University's "Day at the Museum" event promises as much education and fascination as an inquisitive mind can handle.
"Day at the Museum" takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22. During that time participants can visit, for free, any or all of 11 museums throughout the University's National Historic District, learning about everything from astronomy to the printing press to modern art to animals both living and extinct. Each museum along the way will feature unique events, hands on activities, and giveaways. As minds aren't the only things expected to be hungry, there will be food trucks located at the Wilbur D. May Museum.
Among the museums participating in the event are the Fleischmann Planetarium, the Anthropology Research Museum, the Black Rock Press, the W.M. Keck Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the History of Medicine Museum, the University's Arboretum, the Sheppard Contemporary and University Galleries, the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Historical Society and the Wilbur D. May Museum.
"We're open to the public," said Garrett Barmore, curator of the Keck Museum. "That's one of the great benefits of this event. People get to see, first-hand, that these wonderful, special spaces are open and available to them. To see them make that sort of discovery is a great thing."
