The University of ϱ, Reno is again ranked in the top tier of "best national universities" by U.S. News and World Report.

Of the nation's thousands of universities and colleges, U.S. News surveys more than 1,600 through its ranking process. Schools in U.S. News' "best national universities" category offer a full range of undergraduate majors, masters and doctoral degrees and are committed to a productive research program.

"Continuing as a top-tier educational offering among the 'best national universities' makes an important statement about this University," Marc Johnson, University President, said. "The measures behind this ranking touch on several aspects of performance. Our top-tier ranking is an indication of the quality and value we offer students, and about our faculty's world-improving research and the continued contributions of University staff."

The U.S. News' measures include graduation rate performance, faculty resources, student selectivity and preparedness, financial resources, alumni giving, reputation based on input of high-school counselors and a peer-assessment survey with university leaders nationally. There are 202 universities ranked in the 2014 top tier, and the University of ϱ, Reno is ranked No. 194.

To be ranked, the highest degree awarded must be a doctoral degree and the college must have at least one accredited program by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
