Back for a third year, Made in Reno, a local talent concert, will showcase the musical talents found in the Biggest Little City, Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2. Partial proceeds from ticket sales and all proceeds from the event raffle will benefit the University of ϱ, Reno’s Music General Scholarship Fund. The show will be begin at 6:30 p.m. both evenings at Club Underground, 555 E. Fourth St.
"Reno is a true music town - full of great venues of all sizes, and loaded with talented and accomplished musicians of all ages,” event creator and promoter Michael Sion said. “The University’s music department plays a big part in Reno's music scene, so it's highly appropriate that the Made In Reno concert, that showcases homegrown talent, should devote partial proceeds to the Music General Scholarship Fund."
The show will feature 13 local musicians; seven acts will perform on the main stage Friday night and six acts Saturday night with local singer-guitarists or poets performing as special guests between main acts. A panel of local judges will choose one song per main act to include on an album of downloads while one song will be chosen from the weekend event as the grand champion.
“This is Reno’s chance to show the world what great songwriting and performing skills are being developed right in our own city,” Sion said. “Some acts are veterans with large, local and regional followings, yet others are young, up-and-comers, destined to make a big splash.”
Sponsors of this year’s concert include the Reno Gazette-Journal’s Best Bets and Reno Metromix, Wilks Broadcasting’s KTHX-FM 100.1 and KRZQ-FM 100.9, and Entertainment Management Group.
The lineup for Friday consists of Erika Davidson, Kung Fu Sophie, Tyler Stafford, Tim Snider, Eric Andersen, Nothing Like a Dame, Whitney Myer Band, with special guests, Ryan James, Utility Players, Frankie Ferreira, Todd South, Athena McIntyre and Michelle Pappas. Saturday’s performances include Crush, Scarlet Presence, the Reagan Years, Big Remote, Jelly Bread, Drinking with Clowns and special guests: Ben Arnold, Marvin Gonzalez, Iain Watson, Grace Hutchison and Wash Machine.
The show is open to all ages, yet audience members over 21 years old are required to show ID for bar access. Tickets are $10 and available in advance from the performers, at the Melting Pot, Recycled Records and Discology or online at .
