College of Business, TMCC focus on student success

The University’s College of Business and are teaming up to make the transition easy and stress free from TMCC into the College of Business.

A special “Transfer Day” event will take place at the community college, May 1 in the V. James Eardley Student Services Center on the Dandini Campus.

“I am incredibly impressed with the students at TMCC,” said Marie Murgolo-Poore, TMCC director of business studies. “They are hardworking, bright students that want a good future. This impresses me, and we are all willing to work together to do whatever it takes to get them there.”

An informational open house is scheduled from 1 to 4:30 p.m., immediately followed by a formal presentation and remarks from College of Business Dean Greg Mosier and Murgolo-Poore. Following the presentation, a meet-and-greet networking event is slated.

College of Business representatives and student advisers, including the business student council, will be present at the open house. Representatives from TMCC’s counseling and advising center will also be available.

“We want TMCC students to know that we want them to come to the College of Business to continue their education,” said Robyn Davis, advising, recruitment and retention coordinator for the College of Business. “I will be available to students as they transfer to the University until they graduate.”

The idea of the event evolved from several meetings that Mosier and Murgolo-Poore had with College of Business and TMCC faculty and staff.

“We wanted to better facilitate and improve the process of transferring from TMCC to the University,” Davis said. “We wanted to give TMCC students an opportunity to meet our faculty members in person, ask them questions and gain an understanding of the business programs available to them at the University.”

The College of Business offers several resources to its students including: undergraduate and graduate advising, assistance with class registration and major or minor declaration, as well as help with internship and job searches through its Career Connections office.

Both Mosier and Murgolo-Poore plan to host the “Transfer Day” event annually.
