Component overview
Video Galleries are designed to display a number of videos grouped together. Video Galleries display video thumbnails in rows of three, and the thumbnails expand in a modal window to play when clicked. Video Galleries are container components that hold Video Gallery Items.
- Video Galleries can be used on all page schemas: Video Galleries can be used on Section Front, Section Detail, Profile Detail and Degree Detail pages.
- Video Galleries are designed for YouTube and Vimeo.
- Video Gallery Items cannot be placed directly on the page: All Video Gallery Items must first be placed in a Video Gallery container.
- Video Galleries are designed for three or more videos: If you have one or two videos, consider a Feature or Feature-Embed Content Block, Video Panel or Embed component.
- Provide a descriptive title: Each Video Gallery Item has a required title field. Providing a descriptive title for your videos increases engagement by helping users know what they are clicking to see.
- No WYSIWYG: Video Galleries have a title and (optional) subtitle field, but there are no WYSIWYG formatting options in these fields.
- Video Galleries require thumbnail images: You will need to upload a thumbnail image for each Video Gallery Item. Thumbnails should be 328 x 214 px.
- Use background colors to your advantage: Video Galleries have optional blue, dark gray and silver background colors. Background colors apply to the whole gallery. There is no option to set backgrounds on individual videos.
- Video Galleries use a dedicated Video Gallery Item component: You cannot place a regular video embed in a Video Gallery. You must create Video Gallery Items for each video in your gallery.
- Video Galleries do not have a separate header field: Be mindful of your heading structure on the page when using Video Galleries.
- Video Galleries must have human-generated captions: All videos embedded on our site must have human-reviewed and edited captions.
- Video Galleries require thumbnail images: All images must have descriptive alt-text.
- Video Galleries require a Group Title for screen readers: The Group Title should briefly describe the videos in the group below. This Group Title will not display on the page.
- Do not copy Video Gallery Items: Each item needs to be created on its own. Copying Video Gallery Items will duplicate element IDs and cause accessibility errors.
The required image size for Video Gallery thumbnail images is 328 x 214 px.
