Summary

My research focuses on understanding the evolutionary development of the vertebrate enteric nervous system, utilizing the unique model system, the Mexican tetra (Astyanax mexicanus). A. mexicanus is a single species of fish comprising river-adapted 'surface fish' and cave-adapted 'cavefish.' I employ genetic and molecular approaches to investigate the development and function of the enteric nervous system.
